However, it doesn’t work. Videos added to YouTube do not show-up in your Google+ page. I think Google are working on it.

It might be worthwhile doing the plumbing now though. Perhaps they will roll in the near future and start with those already connected.

1. You want to be notified of new uploads via an RSS reader, or
2. You want RSS directories to be notified about your own uploads (for the SEO goodness that this drives).

YouTube does not provide an obvious way to get hold of the RSS feed. As far as I can see there’s no orange RSS button on the channel. However the RSS URL does exist and you can manually create it. The format is:

http://www.youtube.com/rss/user/TheChannelName/video.rss

For example, our channel is CliftonWebServices so the RSS URL would be:

http://www.youtube.com/rss/user/CliftonWebServices/video.rss

You can do this for any YouTube channel.

Btw, good places to submit your RSS feeds include:

Google – Feedburner
feedage.com
feedcat.com
feedagg.com
rss-network.com

But there are many others.

What are EMDs? Previously having a domain name which matched your target keywords could help improve website rank. For example if you were selling information about breeding Alsatian, owning a domain name like alsatian-breeding.com could lend a lot of weight to your keyword ranking. But probably not any more.

This is in fact a good thing because poor quality sites are being weeded-out of Google’s index. However the worry is that legitimate sites with EMDs are also being caught-up in the net.

This is another signal that Google’s strategy is to favour brands.

How should we insulate ourselves against Google’s constant algorithm tweaks and filter changes? Your long-term strategy should be to provide Google with strong branding signals and fill your site with unique quality content.
